NEW YORK, NY - April 3, 2003 - OmniMD™, a New York based developer of Health Information Technology solutions, today announced the release of yet another addition to their impressive roster of ASP (Internet-based) Medical Facility Management offerings, the OmniMD™ Direct-to-Pharmacy Prescription Manager. As with the other modules available under the OmniMD™ suite of integrated solutions - including Electronic Medical Records, Charge Capture, Digital Dictation with associated transcription services, Document Management, Referrals, Scheduling, and more - the Prescription Manager was designed to meet and exceed the guidelines mandated by the HIPAA legislation of 1996. Additionally, the application is available in full function editions for Internet-connected PC’s, Windows-based Pocket PC’s (PDA handheld devices), and the new Tablet PC’s, allowing for system access and usage regardless of a given facility’s network and hardware configurations.
When licensed as a standalone product, the OmniMD™ Prescription Manager allows providers to write their patients prescriptions directly from their Pocket PC or desktop computer, selecting the appropriate medication and correct dosage from either the complete NDC formulary or a customized list of "most commonly prescribed drugs.' At the same time, these healthcare professionals receive the critical up-to-date reference data, including full Drug Utilization Review (DUR) information, providing optimum decision-making tools at a moment’s notice. First submitted into a stored electronic batch, a full day's prescriptions can be signed off electronically, with a single keystroke, each one including the provider’s HIPAA-compliant, legally authorized electronic signature. The completed "scripts" are automatically faxed to the respective pharmacy on a customized, MS Word template created specifically for each OmniMD™ client, either in Real Time (via wireless LAN or Infrared PDA-to-printer protocol) or immediately upon the traditional Pocket PC synchronization method. This process guarantees the shortest possible turnaround between the time a prescription is written and the time patients can begin taking their respective medications.

On a more comprehensive basis, the OmniMD™ Prescription Manager can be used in tandem with the other OmniMD™ solutions. In such a scenario, the benefits for both providers and patients become even more apparent. Besides direct-to-pharmacy submission capabilities, each prescription is "at the same time" logged and attached to the patient’s complete Electronic Medical Record - a record which includes detailed medical histories, dictated transcriptions, scanned images (x-rays, ekg’s, etc) and more - allowing for all important cross-referencing with previously prescribed medications to detect possible adverse interactions. Furthermore, full patient drug usage data - including excessive refill requests - can be instantly accessed prior to providing additional or increased dosages. The cumulative result of this type of clinical turnkey solution is simple: convenience for the providers and better overall quality of care for patients.
